I am really excited I have finally finished Joseph’s (and Alice’s) South America area! He has been interested in the continent for a while now and his imaginative games always had some South American twist. Also my mother and all her family are from Guyana so there was a valuable resource to be utilised!
We got the large wall map for his birthday at the end of January and I printed off and laminated the flags of the countries. I then added velcro dots so that the flags can be pulled on and off.
There are three South America books which have great pictures and facts, photos of children from South America which I love and the children both sit and flick through them asking questions about each child. I also printed and laminated another flag set to do a matching activity, mainly for Alice.
We got a beautiful book from the library called ‘Wild Animals of the South’ which has a section on South American animals.
I feel his interest has made me learn so much! Despite it being half of who I am I had very limited knowledge of the continent.
Here is the two of them completing the map to country match activity. What I love is how Joseph is helping Alice, telling her the country and then pointing to its position on the map.
